Physical Education

All students attend PE at least twice a week. Through different units based on age, students are taught the knowledge and skills needed to live a healthy life. Each class begins with exercises as a group and moves on to the lesson. Students learn various individual and team sports, as well as dance and fitness activities.

Students in grades 6, 7, and 8 have a weekly Health class in addition to PE. In Health, students learn about their body, how it works, and what they need to do to keep it healthy. All 6th, 7th, and 8th graders also become certified in CPR.

Music

Through weekly Music classes, students of all grades learn an appreciation of music. They learn recorders, keyboards, drums, and other instruments. Grades K-4 participate in a Christmas music program, while students in grades 5-8 participate in a Spring music program.

Computer

In addition to the technology that is integrated into all subject areas, students have a weekly computer class. Grades 5-8 learn about the importance of being good digital citizens while learning skills that they will use for the rest of their lives. Students learn how to use many apps associated with Google. They also learn specific software such as iMovie and learn about coding. Grades 1-4 start learning typing skills and Google basics.

Art

Art is taught weekly to every class by the homeroom teacher. Each teacher makes the curriculum their own by choosing activities that best fit their class. Throughout the year, lessons include seasonal and holiday projects, as well as projects that teach students about the elements of art and famous artists.

Spanish

Grades 6, 7, and 8 have weekly Spanish classes where they learn to recognize, pronounce, and spell a variety of Spanish vocabulary. They learn phrases and sentences that help them to communicate in real life situations.

Chess Class

Through the generosity of the Cris Collinsworth Proscan Fund, students in grades 4-7 have a weekly Chess class. Learning chess empowers the students by teaching critical thinking, concentration, patience, and sportsmanship.
